27 Feb OTEP Scholarship Vacancy
Oxford Theological Exchange Programme (OTEP)
Theological Scholarships for the Countries of Eastern or Central Europe, Russia, and the Countries of the Former Soviet Union
Since 1991 the Board of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford has been offering Scholarships to enable theological scholars of outstanding academic merit, from the countries of Eastern or Central Europe, Russia, and the countries of the Former Soviet Union, to pursue further studies in the University’s Faculty of Theology and Religion.
The programme is now run in collaboration with the Oxford Centre for Christianity and Culture at Regent’s Park College, following the retirement last year of the programme’s long serving Executive Secretary, the Revd Dr Douglas Dupree. The current Programme Director is Rebecca White, who is the point of contact for all queries about the programme. Selection of candidates is by committee, chaired on behalf of the Faculty of Theology and Religion by OCCC Director, Dr Nicholas Wood.
During their time at Oxford, scholars pursue their own research project. In addition they are offered a special course on ‘Religion and Society’ to prepare them for the political and legal challenges religion faces today and give them the opportunity to meet religious and political leaders, policy makers and academics working in this area.
OTEP is supported by an association of the House of St Gregory and St Macrina and the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius whose charitable aims are to work for greater understanding between the Christian traditions. The programme is further enhanced by the research activities of the Oxford Centre for Christianity and Culture, in particular those with a Christian East Focus.
The scholarship is open to candidates who, in most cases, will already have, or expect to obtain before October 2015, a theological degree from a recognized university or theological college. More senior researchers are also welcome to apply.
The scholarship will be tenable for up to one year of study and will cover fees, a maintenance allowance, and, where necessary, a return air fare.
Applications are invited for 2015-16 from citizens of Russia, the Ukraine, and any other countries of the former Soviet Union, (apart from the Baltic States), Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia, FYR Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria and Albania. All applicants must be approved and recommended by a recognized Church authority in the applicants’ home countries. The Scholarship is open to members of any Christian denomination. Successful applicants should be willing, if asked, to attend an interview by diplomatic and Church personnel in their home country.
All enquiries should be addressed to Rebecca White, Programme Director, OTEP, Oxford Centre for Christianity and Culture, Regent’s Park College, Oxford, OX1 2LB, UK; Telephone +44 (0)1865 513117 or email email@example.com.
The completed application form together with all supporting documentation must be emailed to Ms White no later than Friday, 1 May 2015.
