Lily Jeffrey joined Regent’s Park College as Project Research Fellow in February 2024. At Regent’s, she works to extend the mandate of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief. Her core research orients around two axes. The first being to support the strengthening and harmonisation of rights standards in contributions to other UN fora, such as Treaty Body and Universal Periodic Reviews and annual thematic reports to the Human Rights Council and General Assembly. The second axis relates to the protection of freedom of religion or belief outside of the UN system, including advocacy to international coalitions of experts.
Before joining Regent’s, Lily studied her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Jurisprudence at St. Anne’s College, where she specialised in Public International Law and Comparative Private Law. She has since spent time working in various capacities for the European Court of Human Rights and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and has facilitated training sessions on the intersection of international human rights law topics, such as the environment, women and girls, and the freedom of religion or belief.
