I am a literary historian who teaches all aspects of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and culture. My research has special interest in the lived experience and material culture of marginalised and under-represented communities, and includes queer histories, histories of disability, histories of childhood, and histories of people of colour. I’ve published on topics including historical youth delinquency, historical female investors/philanthropists and the presence of communities of colour in Georgian England. I have a particular affinity for collections-based research, which I currently conduct primarily for the National Trust, but have also collaborated on projects with literary/heritage institutions including the British Library, the Charles Dickens Museum and the Dr Johnson House. My exhibition Mansfield Park: Courting Controversy opens at the Jane Austen House in Spring 2024.
