54 St Giles’ is a sixteenth-century Oxford townhouse with an eighteenth-century frontage. The building was split into two properties from c. 1771 to c. 1866. The building has been owned by Regent’s Park College since 1956, when it was originally used as the home of Senior Tutor and Bursar, Rev W. Morris. In more recent years, the house has been home to Junior Deans – and Emmanuelle the college tortoise! – before falling into disuse during the pandemic around 2020.
Now, we are undertaking the much-anticipated careful restoration and refurbishment of 54 St Giles’. Plans include demolishing the rear extension, restoring period features on the front of the building, the painstaking repair and refitting of window panes, and internal redecoration. Once complete, this house will be reintegrated into Regent’s life, hopefully as a place to house visiting Fellows and Academics during term time.
