Beloved Regent’s member Dr Rex Mason, who was our Fellow and Tutor in Old Testament Studies from 1975-1993, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday 17 February at the age of 98. His wife, Audrey, had died in August 2023 after more than 70 years of marriage.

Rex was a dear friend to many in the college community, as well as being a distinguished Old Testament scholar who was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Divinity by the University of Oxford for his published work. His portrait, of course, hangs in Helwys Hall. Rex will be fondly remembered by many, including Sir Malcolm Evans, current Principal, who was an undergraduate at the College when Rex was Senior Tutor. You can read Prof Paul Fiddes eulogy here.

Regent’s will hold a Memorial Service for Dr Mason this Friday, 7 November at 5:45pm in the Chapel.
