Jaimee van Gemerden earned her PhD from the University of Otago, specialising in feminist theology. Her research now is on methodological questions in feminist and postcolonial theology, with the goal to develop an understanding of settler theology from a feminist perspective. As a Baptist theologian, she is interested in Baptist history and ecclesiology, with a focus work on ecclesiological responses to safeguarding those vulnerable to or who have experienced abuse. She is also seeking to build a deeper understanding of Baptist women’s history, especially in the context of Aotearoa New Zealand, to support the work of Baptist women in the church today.

Her forthcoming monograph is The Faithfulness of Self-Realisation: No Longer an Object (Routledge, 2026). Other recent publications include “Settler Feminist Theology: The Potential for Postcoloniality” in Feminist Theology and a co-written paper “Baptist Youth Pastors and Pastoral Care for LGBTQIA+ Youth” in Journal of Youth and Theology.
