The Arcadian Ball 2025: Oxbridge Alumni Event in Poland

Date: 18/08/2025

We caught up with Regent’s alumna, Natalia Rochminska (Human Sciences, 2019) to hear about the brilliant success of an Oxbridge Alumni event in Poland – which she co-organised!

This summer, on 21st June, one of the biggest Oxbridge alumni events outside of England took place. Nearly 350 Oxford and Cambridge alumni from over 40 countries gathered to celebrate the tradition of May Balls – for the first time in Poland. Set against the backdrop of the summer solstice, the evening brought the essence of the traditional May Balls to Warsaw – infused with an international spirit and Polish cultural flair.

The date was chosen to celebrate a rare and meaningful overlap: the British Summer Solstice and Polands Noc Świętojańska – the Night of St John. Both traditions mark the arrival of summer, and both are steeped in rituals of joy, renewal, and connection. Drawing inspiration from this shared symbolism, the Ball celebrated unity, education, and the value of cultural heritage.

Throughout the evening, guests were treated to a blend of Oxbridge elegance and Polish folklore. One of the highlights of the night was the traditional Polish Polonaise dance, which invited all participants to join in a moment of shared history and celebration.

Alumni travelled from across the globe – including the UK, USA, China, India, and even Guadeloupe – making the Ball a truly international occasion. Organised as a non-profit initiative, the event provided a rare opportunity for Oxbridge graduates of all ages and disciplines to meet, reconnect, and celebrate their shared academic roots.

The Ball had a strong presence of Regent’s alumni, with numerous guests being college members. One of the organisers behind the ball was, of course, Natalia – an alumna of Regent’s – whose vision helped bring this unique idea to life.

Given the overwhelmingly positive response, the Oxbridge Ball is set to return in the coming years. Plans are already underway for the next edition in summer 2026, promising another unforgettable evening of connection, culture, and celebration, and we hope for an even stronger presence from the Regent’s community!

Save the date (Summer 2026) – and join us as this new tradition continues to grow.
